Hypoxia and partial bladder outlet obstruction-caused bladder dysfunction:a review
Partial bladder outlet obstruction(pBOO)can be caused by various factors such as benign prostatic hyperplasia.Persistent pBOO can cause bladder structure and function damage.Even if the obstruction was relieved, patients will still have lower urinary tract symptoms, which reduced patients'quality of life and increased medical bur-den.Bladder hypoxia was an important pathophysiologic process in bladder dysfunction(BD)caused by pBOO.Hypoxia-mediated hypoxia inducible factor signaling played an important role in the process.Meanwhile, bladder in-flammation,fibrosis,and angiogenesis, etc caused by hypoxia can further exacerbate bladder injury after pBOO.Currently, many studies had made some progress in exploring intervention and treatment strategies for pBOO-induced BD based on hypoxia pathways and downstream signals. This article aimed to review the relevant research on hypoxia and pBOO induced BD,and introduce relevant intervention and treatment strategies.
