Abstract: Objective:To investigate the deaths induced by viral hepatitis among registered residents in Beijing, so as to provide reference for prevention and control of viral hepatitis in Beijing. Methods:The mortality rate, standardized mortality rate, years of life lost (YLL) rate and standardized YLL rate were calculated to analyze the death characteristics of viral hepatitis among registered residents in Beijing from 2005 to 2020.Results:From 2005 to 2020, the mortality rate, standardized mortality rate, YLL rate and standardized YLL rate of residents in Beijing showed trends of decreasing. In Beijing, the deaths were mainly induced by chronic viral hepatitis (91.83%), and hepatitis B was mainly cause among chronic hepatitis (76.52%). In 2019, the standardized mortality rate of acute viral hepatitis in Beijing was lower than that of the world and China, basically the same as that of Japan and South Korea, and higher than that of Singapore and high-income countries in the world. Among the selected countries and regions, the standardized YLL rate was higher than Singapore only. Conclusions:In the past 16 years, the prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis in Beijing obtained great achievements. The death rate of acute viral hepatitis was basically the same as that of high-income countries in Asia Pacific region, but still lags behind Singapore which has the highest healthy life expectancy. Chronic viral hepatitis is still the top priority of viral hepatitis prevention and control, and screening efforts should be continued to expand and improve public awareness of early screening, diagnosis and treatment rates, and reduce morbidity and mortality.
