Abstract： Objective To analyze the acupoint selection patterns for tension-type headaches using data mining techniques and provide references for clinical treatment.Methods Computer searches were conducted in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),VIP Information Chinese Journal Service Platform(VIP),and Wanfang Data databases from their inception up to March 31,2023,for clinical literature related to acupuncture treatment for tension-type headaches.A total of 783 articles were retrieved,and after screening,90 articles meeting the inclusion criteria were included.A database was es-tablished using Excel,and the acupoint selection frequency,meridians,anatomical locations,and specific acupoint usage patterns in the included literature were statistically analyzed.SPSS 25.0 software was employed to conduct cluster analysis and factor analysis on acupoints with a frequency of 16,with dendrograms,ice charts,and rotated factor loading plots created.Results In the clinical application of acupuncture for tension-type headaches,Fengchi(GB20)acupoint was the most frequently used,followed closely by Baihui(DU20),Taiyang(EX-HN5),Touwei(ST8),and others.The main meridians for these acupoints were the Du Meridian,Gallbladder Meridian of Foot Shaoyang,and Stomach Meridian of Foot Yangming.The most common anatomical location for acupoint application was the head and face,followed by the lower and upper limbs.Original acupoints were the most commonly used,followed by luo-connecting points and confluent points.Cluster analysis yielded three categories of acupoint combinations:cluster 1 included Zusanli(ST36),Fenglong(ST40),Sanyinjiao(SP6),and Taichong(LR3);cluster 2 included Yintang(EX-HN3)and Shenmen(HT7);cluster 3 included Fengchi(GB20),Taiyang(EX-HN5),Touwei(ST8),Baihui(DU20),Hegu(LI4),Sizhong(SJ23),and Shuaigu(GB8).Factor analysis extracted five common factor units:F1(Fenglong(ST40),Sanyinjiao(SP6),Taichong(LR3),Zusanli(ST36)),F2(Fengchi(GB20),Touwei(ST8),Baihui(DU20)),F3(Sizhong(SJ23),Shuaigu(GB8)),F4(Yintang(EX-HN3),Shenmen(HT7)),and F5(Hegu(LI4),Taiyang(EX-HN5)).Conclusion Acupoint selection for acupuncture treatment of tension-type headaches primarily focuses on nearby acupoints,especially Baihui(DU20),Taiyang(EX-HN5),and Touwei(ST8),while also considering meridian-based selection,distal acupoint selection,and specific acupoint usage.This approach is often combined with meridian differentiation and syndrome differentiation in treatment.Data mining of acupoint selection patterns for acupuncture treatment of tension-type headaches can provide valuable insights for clinical applications and basic research in this field.
