Abstract: Alopecia areata is a non-cicatricial hair loss disease.Some individuals with alopecia areata may experience complete hair loss or even experience vellus hair loss all over their body.The quality of life of patients with alopecia areata is often severely affected.The etiology of alopecia areata remains unclear,but it may be related to genetic factors,mental factors,environmental factors,immune factors and others.The current treatments for alopecia areata include corticosteroids,local immunotherapy,immunosuppressants,minoxidil,small molecular drugs,biological agents,autologous preparations and others.However,there is currently no radical cure for alopecia areata,nor is there a generally accepted treatment for long-term remission.Recently,with the widespread application of microneedling in the treatment of alopecia areata,some patients with alopecia areata who failed to respond to traditional treatments can also get better improvement.This article reviews the research progress of microneedling in the treatment of alopecia areata.
