Abstract: Myocardial fibrosis(MF)is an interstitial remodeling of myocardium characterized by excessive proliferation of cardiac fibroblasts, collagen deposition and abnormal distribution, which could be seen in various cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, myocardial infarction and heart failure.MF is the main manifestation of myocardial remodeling, which could lead to increased myocardial stiffness, ventricular diastolic dysfunction, decreased coronary flow reserve and even sudden cardiac death.Curcumin, the polyphenols extracted from traditional Chinese medicines such as Curcuma,Zedoary and Turmeric, has been reported to exert anti-inflammatory,antioxidant and anti-fibrosis effects in recent years. Here we review the latest research of the role and mechanism of curcumin in myocardial fibrosis, thus to provide a scientific basis for the clinical application of curcumin.
