Abstract: In June 1967,Kotaro Company successfully incorporated six kinds of Kampo granules into the Japanese health insurance system,an achievement that benefited from the life experience of company founder Ueda Taro and his extensive social network.His production concept originated from"milk powder theory",which may have been influenced by the traditional formula scholar Fujihira Ken.Ishihara Akira,a medical historian,promoted the company's transformation from a family business to a modern company.Famous Kanto doctors Yakazu Domei and Otsuka Yosinori provided support on Kampo theories and clinical application for the company.Pharmacist Yamamoto Shohei suggested developing granules so that the company's products would contain a large amount of prescriptions and formulas from Zhang Zhongjing.Pharmaceutical experts Kimura Koichi and Takahashi Shintaro ensured the technical strength of the production of granules,and Shigeaki Samno is the key person for the successful production of products.Takemi Taro,president of the Medical Doctors'Association,has pushed for the inclusion of granules in health insurance with efforts.This paper discusses the historical process of making Kampo granules from dream to reality under the efforts of Ueda Taro and his team,aiming to provide reference for the research of contemporary dosage forms.
