Abstract: Paul Unschuld,a German Sinologist,is famous for his comparative study of Chinese and Western medicine as well as research on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)classics.He translated TCM classics such as Huang Di Nei Jing(《黄帝内经》The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic),Nan Jing(《难经》Classic of Difficult Issues),Ben Cao Gang Mu(《本草纲目》The Great Compendium of Materia Medica),Yin Hai Jing Wei(《银海精微》Essential Subtleties On the Silver Sea),etc.,developing his unique translation thoughts of TCM classics in this process.These thoughts can be found in his monographs,translated works,academic papers,interviews,reports,and are mainly reflected in three aspects:translated text selection,translation principles,translation ideas,generating his original"four-step methodology""literal translation"and"thick translation"strategies.The unique translation practice of Paul Unschuld has achieved good reception effects and can provide the inspirations for the translation of TCM classics as well as the dissemination of Chinese culture to the world.
