Abstract： Objective To determine the effect of combination of risperidone and aripiprazole on the endocrine hormone levels in male patients with schizophrenia.Methods Totally 107 male patients with schizophrenia were divided into a control group(54 patients,taking oral risperidone)and an observation group(53 patients,taking oral risperidone and aripiprazole)according to the treatment plan.Before the treatment and 8 weeks after the treatment,the serum levels of free triiodothyronine(FT3),free thyroxine(FT4),triiodothyronine(T3),thyroxine(T4),thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)and prolactin(PRL)in both groups were measured.The incidence of adverse reactions was calculated,and statistical analysis conducted.Results After 8 weeks of treatment,the level of TSH in the control group was higher than that before the treatment(P＜0.05),and also higher than that in the observation group after the treatment(P＜0.05).No significant difference was found before and after the treatment in the observation group.There were no obvious difference in the levels of FT3,FT4,T3,and T4 in both groups before the treatment,and no significant difference between the groups.The level of PRL in both groups was higher than that before the treatment(P＜0.05),but the level in the control group was much higher than that in the observation group(P＜0.05).There was no obvious difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between both groups.Conclusion Combination of aripiprazole and risperidone can help suppress the elevation of PRL caused by risperidone and may reduce its impact on the thyroid function,without increasing adverse reactions.
